Handout- Sentence Templates

  • Sentence frames for paragraph: 

    • The general argument made by author X in her/his work, _________title_______________, is that ________main idea______________. More specifically, X argues that __explanation of thesis__________. She/he writes, “_________quote or paraphrase that illustrates/explains thesis____.” In this passage, X is suggesting that ___explanation of the quote  . In conclusion, X’s belief is that      end paragraph.

      • ​​Don't think you have to stick exactly to this frame- this is a guideline. Also consider the follwoing to introduce your book title and author: 

        • In Daniel Pink's article, "title" (year published), the author (rhetorically accurate verb) (explain the main idea of the piece)

  • Bullet out the main ideas for the Daniel Pink article, note paragraph numbers where there's good information supporting those main ideas, then write an intro sentence for the article summary in your notebook.

HOMEWORK: 

  1. Non-fiction projects are due on 10/16

  2. Classification essay rough rough draft (1/2 page or so in notebook) and compare/contrast brainstorm/outline will be stamped on Friday. It's OK to use the same topic, but come at it differently.

Identify introduction and claim, conlcusion. Chunk the remaining body paragraphs and determine their main ideas.

Ethos- what is it? 

Pathos- effect on the reader? 

and Rhetorical devices/strategies.
